AIR INTAKE SHUTDOWN VALVE

A critical safety device designed for situations where flammable gas or vapour may be present in the atmosphere in an area in which a diesel engine is operating. Flammable gases being drawn into the engine intake act as an additional fuel supply and could result in uncontrolled engine overspeed and shut down of the normal diesel fuel may then not stop the engine. A shutdown valve, fitted to the engine air intake system senses sudden or excessive air flow and instantly closes the engine intake, reducing the potential for major damage and possible ignition of the flammable material in the surrounding atmosphere.
